questions

Frequently asked

Marlin’s definition of memorial jewelry is jewelry that holds a tangible piece of your loved one.
My proprietary techniques subtly and beautifully incorporate elements like cremated ashes, a lock of fur, or even hair into the design of your jewelry. These materials become woven into the very fabric of the piece, creating a lasting connection that transcends simple symbolism.

Yes. Whether human or animal, it is perfectly legal to incorporate ashes into jewelry. The state of California (where I operate) has tight regulations for disposing of human cremains, but no disposal happens at Marlin Fine Jewelry. The shipping of cremains is a little more complicated, so to ensure everyone's compliance with the shipping and handling of cremains, I provide detailed instructions on how to ship them safely to me. Please note, it is your responsibility to abide to these guidelines and I cannot be held liable for any lost, stolen, or damaged cremains during the shipping process.

I offer heirloom-quality, handcrafted and highly personalized bespoke memorial jewelry currently starting at $2,400. This price reflects the individualized attention, years of dedication and specialized skills, and high quality materials within each piece. From meticulous design, engineering, 3D modeling and hand finishing at the bench, you are getting the highest quality of service and product. When you choose my work, you're not just investing in a beautiful piece, but in a lasting legacy that truly honors your loved one.

Since I cannot ensure the origin, true identity, or safety of heirloom stones; I cannot accept them for your project. The last thing I want is for your priceless emerald to chip, crack, or break on me- so it's best you let me do the sourcing!

I require a very small quantity of ashes for your memorial piece, and even still- oftentimes there are ashes leftover from the process. I send the remaining ashes in a secure and labeled plastic baggy, tucked into soft suede bag that goes home to you with your finished jewelry piece. Due to those California disposal regulations I mentioned earlier, I cannot dispose of, or “spread” any remaining cremains for you.

The journey to your bespoke piece is a collaborative experience led by shared inspiration, and open and frequent communication, the pace of which can dictate the bespoke process timeline. Every person and design is unique, so it's hard to give a one-size-fits-all timeframe, but please allow 8-12 weeks from finalized design to finished piece.

Although the most popular form of memorial jewelry I create right now is in the form of rings, I can also design pendants/necklaces and bracelets.

Unfortunately, due to the regulations and limitations of shipping cremains, Marlin Fine Jewelry cannot accommodate bespoke memorial clients outside of the continental United States at this time.

I work in 14kt and 18kt gold in the color of your choosing: yellow, white, or rose (pink) and in special cases, platinum ruthenium. I can incorporate ashes, both cremated and aquamated, within your design. I can work with hair and fur, though they'll need to be carefully prepared beforehand. I do not work with teeth, breast milk, or any other body part or bodily fluid.

The nature of bespoke work is that it is made specifically for that client in mind, therefore it is one-of-a-kind. However, I'd be happy to create a piece for you that is inspired by a past design as long as some details have been changed to reflect your own personal style.

Equally important, she was warm, compassionate, and thoughtful. I felt seen, heard, and respected throughout the entire process, which is so meaningful, especially when coping with grief. I'm eternally grateful to Hannah for creating something so beautiful that allows me to carry a physical reminder of my girl and our time together."

"Hannah crafted a stunning, special, deeply personal piece to memorialize my dog-- my best friend, my baby, and the love of my life. Hannah was communicative, super responsive, receptive to feedback, and worked impressively quickly.

I loved connecting, chatting, and getting to know each other. I loved how informed I was throughout the whole process, it sounds so silly but even getting a 3d printed model of the ring to try out was so mind-blowing in that I really felt like I was part of the design process. I've never gotten anything custom made before and the whole thing from start to finish just felt so special."

"Hannah is an incredible artist and working with her was such an immense pleasure! She has this unique way of understanding and respecting the emotions associated with creating memorial pieces; she handled everything with such grace and empathy, which made the experience so much more special.

"The work that Hannah did for me was so much more than making a beautiful piece of jewelry. It was in her personal touches, and the way she handled this delicate process of memorializing my brother.
